Witness interview

Nadezhda I.: "I remember the Germans firing into two graves. Apparently, they dug one grave but there were big trees which couldn’t be uprooted. That’s why I say 2 graves but in fact, there was probably only one." (Witness N°269, interviewed in March 2010)

Historical note

Novaya Mysh is a small village located about 10km west of the city of Baranovichi. In 1921, the Jewish population was 632, comprising 35% of the total population. There were probably about 800 Jews living in town just before the German invasion. The occupation lasted from 1941 to 1944.

Holocaust by bullets in figures

An open ghetto was set up in 1941. It was liquidated in July 1942. After having been gathered at the fire station, the Jews were killed in a large pit that had been prepared by local inhabitants just outside the town. There were around 600 victims. The map also indicates the mass grave of a woman and her son, killed separately.
