Entrevista del testigo

Nina S. evokes: "The Jews were very good neighbors. They worked well. They were pharmacists, engineers, butchers, milk sellers…I went to school until the 4th grade with the Jews Fima Grinberg and Malka Gerber. The father of one was a pharmacist, another had a candy shop. His son always brought candy." (Witness N°258, interviewed in Kodnya, on October 18, 2005).

Nota histórica

Kodnya is located at 22 kms from Zhytomyr. According to some sources, there were approximately 500 Jews in the village before the war. There were for the most of them, merchants or craftsmen. There were a synagogue in the village.

Holocausto por balas en cifras

According to a local witness interviewed by Yahad, the Jews were immediately arrested by the Germans and taken t the shooting. They were shot dressed at the edge of the pit. The houses of the Jews were plundered, then destroyed. The Germans took the Jewish valuables. The synagogue was destriyed as well and the stones were used for other constructions.
