Antonina K. evokes: "There were Vlassovs all during the war. Only young men, about thirty years-old. I saw them training through the slit of a door their training: on command, they climbed up, lay down, stood up and so forth. They had their own kitchen: we gave them apples, sweets." (Witness N°74, interviewed in Stodolishche, on December 6, 2009).
Stodolishche is located 76 kilometers southeast of Smolensk on the railroad from Smolensk to Briansk. According to the 1939 census, there were 232 Jews in Stodolishche.
German units of Army Group Center occupied the village on July 19, 1941. Shortly after the occupation of the village, in late July and early August 1941, the German Ortskommandantur appointed a community leader (starosta) of Stodolishche and ordered the local administration to register the Jews. Some of the Jews were sent to forced labor camps, the rest in a ghetto. The ghetto was liquidated in May 1942.
