Vasyl D. : "The Jews had to move forward in groups of 10 on a board above the pit. The executioners cut down their victims with a machine-gun. Then they also fired into the bottom of the pit to finish the martyrs." (Witness N°999, interviewed in August, 2010)

"A mother hid a child under her in the pit to protect him from the shooting. When she was shot, the child cried and the member of the SD fired with his submachine gun into the back of the woman until the child showed no more sign of life." [ Testimony of Olga D., witness, B162-6150]

Historical note

Voronovytsya is a village situated east of the city of Vinnytsia, on the main road going to Dnipopetrovsk. In 1939, there were around 800 Jews living there. The village was under German occupation from 1941 to 1944.

Holocaust by bullets in figures

A ghetto was set up in two open streets. The weakest  Jews of the village, around 1,000 victims, were quickly eliminated by the Germans behind the sugar refinery in two different actions in November and December 1941. A second action took place in May 1942 during the liquidation of the ghetto, with 270 victims. A labor camp was created in May 1942 with Jews coming from Transnistria under Romanian occupation. They had to work on the construction of the main road DG IV, which went from Lviv to the Caucasus. In May 1943, they were then eliminated, also near the sugar refinery.
