Grigory B. evokes: "Among the police, there were many local people. They were like dogs." (Witness N°133, interviewed in Sychyovka, on May 23, 2011).
"The fascist bandits broke into the houses of the citizens of Sychyovka. when they found Jewish families living there, they forced them outside on the street, beating them and torturing them." (RG-22.002M/7021-44/637).
Sytchiovka is the administrative center of the district of the same name in the region of Smolensk. In 1939, the Jewish population gathered 138 inhabitants.
The town was occupied by the German units On October 10, 1941. On January 7, 1943, all the Jews were gathered to be sent to Germany. Between 29 and 100 Jews were taken by Andreyevski to the nearby village of Sokolovo in order to be shot. According to the Extraordinary Soviet Commission, 53 Jews were killed.
