Yelena Petrovna I. evokes: "I was requisitioned by the commander of the kolkhoz brigade to go and dig the ditch where the Jews were later to be shot. Around 50 people were requisitioned, all in all. The Germans gave us indications about the size of the ditch through the help of local interpreters." (Witness N°329, interviewed in Ilinskaya, on June 13, 2012).

"(...) the Germans forced 6 elderly men to dig two big trenches that were filled with bodies. Once the bodies were buried, they were forced to dig a small ditch where they had to lie down and were shot by revolver." [Deposition of Pyotr V, made in Krasnodar, on May 1944, RG-22.002M/7021-16].
