Olga D. remembered: “The Jews were shot near today’s prison building. They were brought on foot directly from their houses to the execution site. Local police and Germans with dogs escorted them. I think Germans have lists of Jews so they could recognize them.” (Witness N° 1027, interviewed in Stryzhavka, on August 20, 2010)
"On September 19, 15,000 Vinnitsa inhabitants were slaughtered in the Pyatnichanskiy forest, among them [following by the list with some last names] as well as women who had just given a birth and taken from the hospital and the elderly people taken from the retirement home in Stryzhavka”. [Act of the Soviet extraordinary commission, RG-22.002M.7021-54/1236]
Stryzhavka is a small city just north of Vinnytsia. Before the war, there was a significant Jewish population. The village was under German occupation between 1941 and 1944.
On January 10, 1942, 227 Jews of the city were killed in January 1942, in a pit dug near the prison. On January 11, twelve Jews were arrested, and for shooting brought to Vinnitsia.
