Witness interview

Yaroslav P. recalls: “I saw the graves of the Jewish victims in the forest. The graves were huge. One day, I was coming from school and I saw the graves which were opened. I could see dead bodies inside and that the earth was still moving. The graves were covered with earth one week later”. (Witness N°754, interviewed in Ralivka, on January 14, 2009).

Historical note

Ralivka is located 78 km from Lviv. The Jews were merchants or artisans. There was a synagogue in the village. The German occupation began in July 1941.

Holocaust by bullets in figures

According to Yahad’s investigation and their witness Yaroslav O. (Witness N°754), we learn that two or three weeks after the occupation, the persecution against the Jews began. One day, some Jews were told to go to the forest to dig graves, but when they arrived to the Jewish cemetery, in the forest, they were shot. The graves were big and full of corpses. Another witness, Anton T. (Witness N°756) saw four trucks coming from Sambir. They drove in the direction of the forest. When they arrived, the Jews had to get out of the trucks in order to go to the graves. They were then put on a plank and were shot by two German shooters. They fell dead into the graves.
